What is Detox?
First of all detoxification (detox for short) is the process of cleansing the body from harmful toxins and restoring it’s natural ability to heal.
It can also be thought of as removing most sources of toxins in your life and improving your body's elimination systems like the colon, kidneys, skin and liver (the ways your body deals with an removes toxins).
What Are Toxins?
A toxin is defined as something that is poisonous or disruptive to the body, impairing its proper function. Some people also define toxins as an irritant or a stimulant to your body.
We are exposed to more toxins than ever before in the history of mankind. And in our toxic world, our bodies can quickly become overwehelmed and break down.
Experts say that an overabundance of toxins can contribute to diseases like cancer and diabetes, fatigue, mental fog, depression, infertility and more. Toxins have even been blamed for cellulite and an inability to lose weight.
Common Sources of Toxins:
Air:
- exhaust fumes
- tobacco smoke
- chemtrails from planes
- new construction furniture
Food:
- pesticides and herbicides on our fruits and vegetables
- fungicides
- food dyes
- Food additives and preservatives
- MSG and artifical sweeteners
- hormones and antibiotics in conventional dairy and meat products
- caffeine
- over the counter and prescription drugs
- mercury in fish
At-Home Products:
- beauty products like shampoos, face creams, makeup, hair spray, nail polish etc.
- unfiltered water with fluoride and chlorine
- off-gasses from particle board furniture, paint, new curtains and carpets
- Dry cleaning
There are also toxins that assault your body from the inside:
- Stress
- Bioproducts from normal food metabolism
- Candida
- Parasites
- Heavy Metals
It's not possible to completely avoid all toxins. In fact your body was designed to handle a certain number of toxins. The problem these days is that we’re exposed to so many toxins our bodies become overwhelmed.
When the level of toxins you take in outstrips your body’s ability to eliminate them, you can become toxic - and start to suffer from various illnesses.
Ways To Detox:
There are several ways to detox including using an infrared sauna and cleaning up your diet (fruits, vegetables, juicing and cutting out refined sugar, wheat, caffeine, etc.). The biggest problem people face when cleaning up their diets is that it's hard to change your eating.
When you jump into a major diet change, you may feel bad temporarily - since all the toxic waste is now being dumped into your bloodstream and colon for removal. One way to avoid this is to go slowly, changing one thing at a time so your body gets used to it before you introduce the next change.
Another way to detox that's much easier is to use an infrared sauna (while you're cleaning up your diet). These saunas use direct infrared heat (which is very safe - it's the same heat used by the sun and even our own bodies emit infrared heat).
This heat can penetrate up to 2 inches deep into the skin and helps our cells release toxins in the form of sweat. Unlike traditional sauna, infrared saunas run at much lower temperatures. So it's more comfortable and you can stay in longer.
Infrared saunas are particularly good at removing stubborn toxins like heavy metals. Plus they're a much more comfortable way to detox for many people than wheatgrass and juicing.
While they don't substitute for a clean diet, saunas can definitely help with a detoxification and healthy lifestyle plan. If you decide that an infrared sauna is right for you, make sure to do your research as there are many inferior products out there.
